Artistic Leadership
Blythe Hopson, Interim Artistic Director
Cantare Houston is pleased to welcome Blythe Hopson as Interim Artistic Director for the 2024/2025 Season.
Blythe has been a member of Cantare’s alto section since 2017. She has served as section leader and has been selected as a soloist in several performances. Blythe performed with Cantare at the Southwestern Region of the American Choral Directors’ Association Conference (SWACDA) in March 2020. She also sang on Cantare’s album, Love Divine.
As a high school choir director, Blythe and the Manvel High School Varsity Mixed Choir performed at the University of Houston Choral Invitational in 2023. The Varsity Mixed Choir was also selected to perform at the Houston Christian University Choral Invitational in 2024. In 2019, this same group was selected for the Hear the Future clinic with the Houston Chamber Choir. The Manvel High School Choir program has a history of consistent UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Sweepstakes Awards for both varsity and non-varsity groups. Blythe currently serves Region 17 as Region Secretary, previously serving as the Vocal Chair (2020-2022) and Vocal Vice-Chair (2018-2020).
Professionally, Blythe has also sung with Houston Symphony Chorus, Houston Chamber Choir, and was a member and featured mezzo-soprano soloist for the Simon Carrington Chamber Singers.
While obtaining her undergraduate degree at University of Houston, Blythe served as Student Director and Alto Section Leader of the Concert Chorale under the direction of Dr. Betsy Cook Weber. She also served as Senior Conductor and Assistant Director of Ardore, a student-led vocal ensemble. In addition to these appointments, Blythe performed with the Moores Opera Center under the direction of Buck Ross as a Flower Girl in The Marriage of Figaro, Spirit 3 in The Magic Flute, and also sang chorus for Der Rosenkavalier and Falstaff.
Blythe is an avid Houston sports fan! Originally from Lufkin, Texas, she really enjoys the city of Houston and considers it home. Blythe could not be more excited to serve Cantare Houston from the podium this season.
